What's Your Favorite Operating System?

Postby Markster » November 27th, 2010, 2:47 am

My favorite is still Windows 7 as of 2013, I used 8 on my cousin's laptop and it wasn't very good, it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't half as good as 7.

Seems like a strange topic for a poll, but it's good to have some idea of what people use/like. I would have thought a 'preferred operating systems' poll (Windows/Mac OS/Linux, etc.) poll would have popped up before this one.

I actually have a real soft spot for Windows 98 SE, which had lots of great features while being very efficient to run. XP was nicer in a lot of ways, but also much more of a resource hog... I stayed with '98 for quite a while before upgrading to a new system with Windows XP. I didn't bother at all with Vista, but I built a new system and installed Windows 7 on it as soon as 7 was available.

I love Windows 7, and going back to previous versions is now quite painful. :P

Yeah, I love 7 and I can't go backwards. I hated it for quite awhile because I used XP for almost a decade, but now I can't stand XP. 7 is so shiny!

I'm just too damn retro... I use my 98 all the time!
I do kinda like xp, but 98 is my favourite!
And I really don't like 7, it makes me angry how they changed everything... why did they even call it "7" anyways? There's definitely more than seven different versions of Windows (including the update-e things like 1.0 and such).

I went for Windows 95 and 98. I really loved 3.1, but 95 had Hover with it, therefore nudging it in as my second choice. 98 is my secondary OS after Windows 7, though.

Oddball single-vote here; I use and like XP.

Windows 7 is too different and I'm not wasting my time relearning the interface and technical details. I'd rather waste RAM making XP look like it's 7 than actually have 7 installed. Also, over 75% of all my programs are built only for XP, so I cannot go off and start using 7 like nothing happened. Because essentially nothing I use is guaranteed to be portable.

Vista is just a buggy piece of farce that doesn't deserve my attention.

...and Windows 8? Forget it...

Simion, that's exactly why I keep my Windows 98 laptop. Pretty much every PC game I own is for older operating systems, so running it on Windows 7 is not feasible.

Yeah, I have a crapload of PC games that no longer work for my computer since I have Windows 7. Even when I run compatibility mode (which is a chore in itself) they still don't work. So I do miss XP, but I've just always gotta have the newest thing and whatnot so... my votes go to XP and Windows 7. At least it's better than Vista, which I had the misfortune of being stuck with for a few months before upgrading to 7.

I was stuck with Vista, until the machine broke and I had to get a new one. But that's a story in itself.

I accidentally erased the scores by updating it, damn you phpBB.

But there is now an option for Windows 8.

Linux is now best, screw all Windows operation systems, they all suck, WINE works with DELTA, DKCRE, DKC4 (Fangame), etc. anyways.

I don't even like XP and 7 anymore.

I have a special place in my heart for Mac OS 7/8/9. Oh the times we had ;_;
Tough choice between Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard though. I loved every inch of Snow Leopard and still use it at home, but it's slowly being phased out because of Mountain Lion (my work OS, fantastic but a bit too iOS-new-age-ish). I used Tiger most of my youth but then Apple went Intel and I was left alone with my obsolete PowerPC machine
