Animals that inspired the characters of the DKC games

I'm interested in talking about the characters of the DKC trilogy, and their real-world conterparts.

Who's with me?

I have always thought that Slippa from DKC looks like either a Coral Snake or a Sonoran Mountain Kingsnake:

Also, the blue butterflies look a bit like Ulysses Butterflies:

Anyone else care to share theories of DKC character origins?

You are pretty much right on about Slippa, it looks exactly the same. I'm gonna look up on google images to find a spider that matches Squitter.

I thought he was a dolphin.

But he's bright blue, he can't be a swordfish!

Exactly! He must be a cactus.

Durrr... that's why it says Enguarde the Cactus in the manual...

Doesn't anyone read the manual? >.<

I did, but I don't for new games. I read it cause it was already 13 years old by that time :P

I'd like to thank my parents, my brothers, and everyone on the forums for helping me achieve my goal of being a Superstar Genius. Wait a minute...

He's... he's... a cactus?

Those devious, devious game developers.

This is a great idea,I would love to see picture comparisons of most animals from the game, even the obious like the kongs.

Eh, some the Kongs aren't so obvious. Chunky, for example, is a bit harder to pin a species on. I say he's a really big chimp, others say he's a gorilla, and so on.

Sorry for the mega-huge bump, but there is too much potential for this thread. :geek:

I believe Croctopus was inspired by a real species called 'Blue-ringed' or 'Blue-lined' octopus

EDIT:Oops, seems someone at Wikipedia has already made this connection...

Hey nice find! I always thought the texture on him was a made up one.

Yeah, that's a nice observation. Cheers for sharing it. I should have noticed the similarity, being an Aussie and all... They're notoriously deadly critters, and they are native to the pacific. Not sure if I've seen them in the wild, but I've certainly heard of them.

I find it rather amazing that the blue-ringed octopus Wikipedia page actually mentions the Croctopus comparison. That's crazy. :D

Yeah, I've noticed that comparison before, it must have slipped my mind.

Slippa is a coral snake. have you ever heard this: Red to black, venom lack. Red to yellow kill a fellow. That's how you tell the difference between the harmless King snakes and Milk snakes between the deadly Coral Snakes. Image
I think that Squitter is a red knee tarantula:

The closest looking snake that I could find for Rattly was a Banded Calico Snake. But it's red and black striped. If I don't find anything better, I'll post a picture.
